Faduyile at DTTC Ode Aye 45th Reunion Anniversary, calls for more attention to members health.

Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, an health expert and Professor of Pathology has congratulated the set of 79 of Divisional Teacher Training College, DTTC Ode Aye on the occasion of the 45th Reunion Anniversary of the set.
The colorful reunion held at The hall of the Local Government Secretariat ,Okitipupa on the 1st October , 2024.
The event had in attendance old students like Prof. Akinlo, Vice Chancellor Emeritus, Chief Malumi, Mr. Smile Igbekele, and a host of others. It was a huge avenue for banters, reminisces and back slapping among the horde of old students who have advanced in age with a good number of them now senior citizens.
In his address, Prof. Faduyile noted that there are so many health concerns that the alumni need to pay attention to now that Grace of God has situated them in their seventies, stressing that he sees them all as people who have been specially favoured by providence as the mortality bracket in Nigeria now is between 49 and 50.
He advised them to be conscious of health issues such as diabetes, cancer, arthritis, Prostrate, noting that Old age sicknesses are also known as age-related diseases or geriatric conditions and they are health issues that become more common as people age.
While breaking down the old age based health conditions, Prof. Faduyile said there are Physical Health Conditions such as Osteoporosis (bone thinning), Osteoarthritis (joint degeneration),
Hypertension (high blood pressure) , Diabetes,
Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, stroke)
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Cancer,
Kidney disease,
Glaucoma (vision loss)
and Hearing loss.
on Cognitive and Neurological Conditions related to old age, the former NMA President said Alzheimer’s disease,
Dementia , Parkinson’s disease, Stroke, Chronic pain, Depression, Anxiety,
Sleep disorders,
Memory loss
and Neuropathy (nerve damage) are noticeable conditions.
He said when one has become very advanced in age, mood disorder sets it and it can easily aggravate suicidal thoughts therefore loneliness is not a good thing for the aged, while also maintaining that brain enhancing games should be encouraged by the elderly.
He said the risk Factors are Genetics, Lifestyle choices (smoking, physical inactivity),
Diet and nutrition, Environmental factors (pollution, UV exposure)
and Chronic stress.
” Permit me to say that the prevention and Management of any of these old age challenges are not really difficult ; it is just about paying attention to medical details such as
regular health check-ups,
living healthy lifestyle choices, Vaccinations
Medication management, while it is also good
for the elderly to sustain balance Social engagement,” Prof. Faduyile submitted.
