Gun men killed OAU Don, Prof Jerome Elusiyan; NMA reacts.

Professor of Paediatric endocrinology, and Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Professor Jerome Elutayo Elusiyan has met with untimely death in the hands of unknown gunmen on Friday the 13th of December in Edo state.
Professor Elusiyan was said to be returning from Iruekpen , Esan Local Government area of Edo state where he had gone to moderate the Finals of the Paediatric examination of the medical students of Ambrose Ali University , Ekpoma. On his way returning to Benin, the gunmen had blocked the Iruekpen high way ; his driver , who sustained bullet wounds, made frantic effort to reverse the car and made a dash for escape but the alleged high way robbers had started shooting into the air . Stray bullets from the gunmen had killed the don before his brave chauffeur could complete his round of escape.
The Professor of Paediatric, Endocrine and child health, it will be recalled delivered the 345th Inaugural Lecture of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile Ife on the 24th of September , 2019.
The Nigeria Medical Association in a release by its National Publicity secretary, Dr. Obitade Obimakinde condemned the brutal killing of Prof Jerome Elusiyan, a prized member of the organization. Dr. Obimakinde said the body charged the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to step up his resolve to protect the lives of Nigerians as the number of people who are killed on the highway by unknown gunmen have become way too alarming. NMA asked the security agencies to unearth the perpetrators of the brutal killing of their colleague and bring them to justice as well as to ensure that such future occurrence is forestalled , noting that this unfortunate development has confirmed that the security architecture of this country is very poor while life is cheap here.
Report has it that the nation does not have more than ten Professors of Paediatric endocrinology and one of them is professor Jerome Elutayo Boluwaji Elusiyan whom gunmen had just killed in the prime of his life when his robust input in the medical profession is just blossoming.
The Oke Igbo born Professor Paediatric Medicine in his life time was a staunch member of the Chapel of Grace of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex ,OAUTHC, Ile Ife.
