Igbinedion University Medical Students’ induction: Faduyile charges inductees to pay attention to details.

The former President of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, has advised young turks in the Medical Profession not to see the ‘ Japa Syndrome’ as an end in itself and not to get fixated on the notion of hopping on the next flight overseas as soon as they have completed Medical School as such action will make them appear less patriotic to their calling which requires they give back to their fatherland.
Prof. Faduyile, Special Adviser on Health , Ondo State, who was the Guest Speaker at the Induction and Oath taking of The Medical Students of Igbenedion University Okada, who have just successfully completed Medical School of The Premier Private Univeristy in Nigeria, told the lucky medics that while he is not totally opposed to the ‘ Japa’ sindrome, such effort should be geared towards acquiring knowledge and skills that will be put into the good use of improving Nigeria.
Thepolity.net reports that Prof. Faduyile noted that in the mid 50s, some missionaries left their country, majority of them from Britain and Ireland and came to different parts of Nigeria, mostly the villages to establish missions, schools and health outreaches. “Their visit to Africa was about taking the continent out of darkness, hence the Medical Doctors owe the nation a commitment towards sustaining the good health of the citizenry.”
Prof. Faduyile charged the inductees to maintain good interpersonal relationship in medical practice as they will have cause to work as members of different medical teams in their career progression, stressing that they must endeavor to pay attention to details so as to avoid being put in a situation of disrepute in medical practice.
” On the second leg of my advice , kindly do not forget that this profession can put you on a position of disrepute if you do not pay attention to details.
” You must dutifully see your patients , be at your ward rounds promptly and do not joke with your call duty as you never can tell who will need your emergency services.”
The Pathology and Forensic Medicine Profesor told the Doctors that while MBBS seemed like the final destination some years back, the field of Medicine in the contemporary time has gone beyond such sentiment . ” You will have to quickly consider specializing in one field or the other; days of being a General Practice Physician is over in the medical profession as you will need to aspire and add more in your practice,” Prof. Faduyile noted.
While congratulating the Certified Medical Doctors of Igbinedion University, Okada, Prof. Faduyile reminded them of the need to adhere to the dictates of the Hippocratic Oath of the Medical profession, which he noted contains the Pythagorean duties of Justice, Secrecy, Respect for teachers and Solidarity with peers.
