Ondo State Government has begun to distribute palliatives to vulnerable households in the state as part of measures to cushion the economic burden resulting from the subsidy removal.

While flagging off the distribution in Isua-Akoko, headquarters of the Akoko South East Council of the state, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, disclosed that no fewer than 6,000 households would benefit from the palliatives in the area.

According to her, each household will receive a bag of rice and the food palliatives will reach the intended beneficiaries, irrespective of their political affiliations.

Ademola-Olateju stressed that similar exercises will be carried out in the four other councils within the Akoko in the northern senatorial district.

She said: “We are kicking off the distribution of palliatives to Ondo State residents, and it happens that the four councils in Akoko are the first to be distributed to.”

“We have selected the most vulnerable households, but based on our experience while we were drawing the list, we have seen that we will go very far. We have Muslim communities, Christian associations, market women’s associations, traders associations, tailoring associations, and Iyalojas, among others.”

On his part, the Ondo State House of Assembly member representing Akoko South East, Suleiman Muritala Babatunde, stated: “As a representative of the people, I am glad that this is happening in my local government. I would like to thank the Federal Government in conjunction with the state government for providing these palliatives.”
