Faduyile gives tips on how to Combat halitosis, body odour.

Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON has noted with concern the need for people to be wary of halitosis, a public health concern which borders on bad breath. In an exclusive media gist with thepolity. net , the Special Adviser on Health, Ondo State noted that halitosis is an oral health problem that has to do with bad smelling breath resulting in bad mouth odour.
Prodded further on this health challenge, Prof. Faduyile said certain foods like garlic , onions , poor oral hygiene , poor and irregular mouth brushing, odour causing bacteria at the back of the tongue , oral infections , dry mouth , cigarette smoking are related causes of halitosis, adding that other diseases like diabetes, liver or kidney diseases can contribute to bad breath.
While giving tips on how to Combat halitosis , Prof. Faduyile advised that the teeth should at least be brushed or flossed twice daily while the tongue in particular and back of the tongue should be specially brushed. “Those who smoke should quit the habit and at all times people should keep saliva flowing by eating healthy foods that allows chewing; carrot and apple are good in this wise and one should keep one’s mouth moist,” the Professor of Pathology and Forensic Medicine noted.
While stressing that mouth odour is not socially acceptable , Prof. Faduyile charged anyone battling the challenge to visit dentists for professional and timely cure , adding that at the slight index of systemic disease, prompt medical solution should be sought.
On body odour challenge, Faduyile admitted that it is a common problem which usually becomes more evident after puberty, stressing that odour occurs in the body as a result of bacteria in person’s skin breaking down protein molecules in the sweat. He said body odour is not caused by sweating alone because human sweat is almost odourless.
The Health expert avered that poor personal hygiene , consumption of certain foods ,diabetes, kidney and liver diseases are causes of body odour.
Profering medical advise to prevent body odour, Prof. Faduyile added thus, ” washing regularly with soap and ensuring that the body is thoroughly dried will prevent body odour.
” Hair is breeding ground for bacteria therefore, the armpit and the groin region must be specially shaved at all times.
” Wearing same cloth over and again without washing can increase risk of body odour, also it is always better to wear loose -fitting clothing made of cotton. ”
Going further, The Special Adviser on Health suggested the use of antiperspirant for people, while noting that everyone should reduce their stress level not only because of the need to avert sweat inclined body odour but for the general healthy wellbeing.
He equally noted that if anyone notices that they sweat heavily, such should consult the doctor as a matter of promptness.
Asked of his signing off line, Prof. Faduyile said, ” body odour can affect person’s quality life , let’s guide against it.”
