A fire incident at Grace International School on Awolowo Street beside Kobiowu Mosque in Tanke, Ilọrin South Local Government Area of Kwara State has destroyed nine classrooms.
The incident, it was gathered, occurred around past 6:00 pm on Sunday and destroyed a substantial part of the 14-room facility.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
According to him, upon arrival at the scene, the firemen met a block of classrooms engulfed in flames.
“Tragically, the fire had already ravaged nine out of the 14 classrooms, leaving a significant portion of the school in ruins,” he added.
He attributed the cause of the inferno to “an undergrowth fire that was deliberately set ablaze by an unidentified individual.”
“The flames then rapidly spread to the school building, causing extensive damage,” Adekunle added.
He said the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa urged the public to prioritise safety and be more careful in their day-to-day activities.
