Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has firmly stated that the newly created 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state are permanent and will not be scrapped. He emphasized that the LCDAs, established through law, aim to bring government closer to the people of the state and have come to stay.

Aiyedatiwa made this declaration during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected local government chairmen in the state. The Governor reiterated that the survival of these LCDAs depends on mutual trust and inclusivity from the parent local governments.

“I must reiterate that the 33 Local Council Development Areas have come to stay,” Aiyedatiwa declared. “They are a creation of law, designed to bring government closer to the people of Ondo State. We have a collective duty to ensure their survival.”

Aiyedatiwa reminded the newly sworn-in Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of the 18 local government areas in the state of their solemn promise to serve with integrity, honesty, and transparency. He encouraged them to work towards fulfilling the manifesto of their party and improving the lives of the people at the grassroots level.

“The expectations of our people are very high, and you cannot afford to disappoint them,” the Governor said. “To whom much is given, much is expected. As servant-leaders, you must be driven by passion for the welfare and prosperity of our people.”

The Governor also stressed the importance of collaboration and synergy with the Legislative Councils and career public servants, urging the elected officials to be accountable to the people they serve.

Aiyedatiwa called for the development of local government areas, with a focus on basic amenities, infrastructure, and public services. He further urged the council leaders to embrace a “People First” governance approach, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and the needs of the citizens.

“The future of our local government areas should be one of development, where people have access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities,” Aiyedatiwa said.

The local government chairmen were elected during the January 18, 2025 election in the state.
