The internal feud within Sokoto State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has exploded into open hostility. The conflict, previously contained behind closed doors, now sees key figures trading sharp public accusations, threatening to split the party ahead of future elections.

The latest volley comes from supporters of Senator Ibrahim Lamido. They have launched a strong counter-attack against the group led by Senator Aliyu Wamakko and a rival party chairman, Isa Sadiq Achida. This response was triggered by recent comments from Wamakko’s camp which directly challenged Lamido’s political standing and even his family background.

The original attack from the Wamakko-Achida faction questioned Lamido’s right to a leadership role within the party. Their statements implied doubts about his political roots and legitimacy, a serious charge in the world of Nigerian politics. This move is seen as an attempt to weaken Lamido’s influence and isolate him from the party’s base.

In retaliation, Lamido’s allies have fiercely defended his reputation. They have dismissed the accusations as baseless and a sign of desperation from their rivals. This public back-and-forth reveals a deep division over who truly controls the party’s structure and direction in the state, a battle that goes beyond simple policy disagreements.

Political observers warn that this deepening crisis could have severe consequences. A divided APC in Sokoto may struggle to present a united front, potentially weakening its chances in upcoming contests. The party now faces the difficult task of mending these deep rifts or risking a major loss of political power in the state.
