The Olubadan Palace has moved swiftly to reassure residents of Ibadanland following allegations of a looming crisis between the traditional institution and the Oyo State Government.

The response comes after former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, claimed on Sunday that Governor Seyi Makinde was planning the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja, a development that quickly stirred public concern.

In a statement, the palace dismissed the allegation, insisting there is no conflict between the monarch and the state government, and urging the public to disregard what it described as unverified claims.

According to palace officials, the traditional ruler remains in Ibadan carrying out his duties, contrary to suggestions that his recent absence at a coronation ceremony signalled a breakdown in relations with the government.

Fayose had alleged that the purported plan would begin with official queries over the monarch’s absence at the event, as well as other unspecified issues, claims that have not been confirmed by state authorities.

The palace, however, clarified that the Olubadan did not deliberately stay away from the ceremony and stressed that his absence should not be interpreted as part of any dispute.

Observers note that such public exchanges have heightened attention around the relationship between traditional institutions and political authorities, particularly in states where monarchs play significant cultural roles.

For now, the palace is calling for calm, advising residents to rely on verified information while maintaining that there is no rift requiring concern within Ibadanland.
