Tensions are rising in parts of Ondo State as youth groups in Akoko North West Local Government Area call for a review of political appointments, warning that continued exclusion could deepen divisions within the community.

The group, operating under the banner of Concerned Youths of Akoko North West, has accused both federal and state authorities of uneven distribution of appointments, alleging that certain communities are being consistently overlooked in favour of others.
In an open letter addressed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and copied to relevant authorities, the youths outlined what they described as a pattern of marginalisation affecting specific areas within the local government.

The letter, signed by Adefemi Elegbeleye, Afinjuomo Stephen and Fagbuyi Ojo, urged immediate steps to correct the imbalance.

According to the group, communities in Constituency Two  including Irun, Ogbagi, Ese and Afin  have seen little representation in key positions, while Constituency One, made up of Arigidi and Okeagbe, is said to dominate appointments at both state and federal levels.

The youths argue that such concentration of political influence in one axis undermines the principles of fairness and inclusion, warning that it could weaken grassroots trust in governance structures if left unaddressed.

They are calling for a comprehensive review of appointments already made, alongside a more deliberate effort to ensure equitable representation across all communities going forward. The group maintains that balanced inclusion is critical to sustaining unity and political stability in the area.

While reaffirming their support for the ruling party, the youths cautioned against what they described as a “winner-takes-all” approach, urging government at all levels to adopt a more inclusive framework that reflects the diversity and expectations of the people they serve.
