The Nigerian Army has increased its operational presence in Plateau State with the deployment of 178 personnel to support ongoing security efforts in Mangu Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

The troops, drawn from the 236 Tank Battalion, arrived at the Headquarters of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, on September 25, 2026, as part of the military’s latest measures to strengthen coordination and response capabilities in areas facing security concerns.

The deployment was carried out in two groups of 89 personnel each and was led by the Commanding Officer of the 236 Tank Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel H.O. Obire. The soldiers were received by the Sector 8 OPEP Commander upon arrival at the headquarters.

Security sources say the newly deployed personnel have begun orientation activities to understand the sector’s operational area, responsibilities and existing security challenges before fully joining ongoing missions.

The move comes amid concerns over recent incidents affecting communities in Mangu and nearby areas, including reports of attacks, loss of lives, destruction of livestock and retaliatory incidents that have heightened tensions in parts of the state.

The additional troops are expected to reinforce security operations by increasing military visibility, improving response time to emergencies and supporting efforts to protect residents in vulnerable locations.

The Nigerian Army says the personnel will work alongside other security agencies and emergency responders to enhance stability, prevent further threats and support peace efforts across communities under Sector 8’s area of responsibility.
