The Federal Government has withdrawn its eight-count criminal case against Adeniyi Adeyemi, accused of posing as Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, with plans to arraign him afresh before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out the charges on Monday after the prosecution requested that the case be terminated. The move follows a review of the case by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the review identified legal concerns with the existing charge, which had been filed by the Inspector General of Police. He said the issues required the prosecution to pursue the matter before a different court.

According to Oyedepo, the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi fall within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court. He informed the judge that a fresh charge had already been filed and that the government intended to bring the defendant before the court without delay.

Adeyemi’s lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu, did not oppose the application. Justice Umar consequently struck out the existing charge, clearing the way for the prosecution to proceed through the new legal process. The ruling did not determine the defendant’s guilt or innocence.

Adeyemi, 38, had been charged with conspiracy and forgery alongside two other suspects identified as Femi and Anu, whose full names were not provided in court and who were reported to be at large. The case was registered at the Federal High Court under charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025.

The next stage will depend on the fresh proceedings at the FCT High Court, where the government says Adeyemi will be arraigned again. The case will then have to proceed through the appropriate legal process, with the allegations against the defendant subject to determination by the court.
