The Federal Capital Territory Administration is intensifying pressure on contractors handling major road projects in Abuja, with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike seeking assurances that ongoing infrastructure works will be completed within agreed timelines. Wike gave the update on Monday after inspecting the ISEX 2 project, the Southern Parkway project and the road linking Nile University to Ring Road 3 in Lugbe, Abuja.

The inspection, according to the minister, was aimed at assessing progress on projects identified as priorities for residents of the nation’s capital. Wike said he returned from an engagement outside Abuja and immediately embarked on site visits to review the level of work and receive fresh commitments from contractors.

During the inspection, Wike said he was encouraged by the renewed commitment from construction companies working on the projects. He disclosed that CGC had pledged to complete the High Court project by December, while work on the second bridge around the Gaduwa axis would accelerate after the rainy season to allow major earthworks to continue.

The minister also highlighted progress on the Nile University–Ring Road 3 project, where he said earlier concerns over the pace of construction had reduced following assurances from CCECC. According to him, the company committed to completing and handing over the project in the first week of January.

Beyond infrastructure updates, Wike also addressed questions surrounding the political platform known as the Rainbow Coalition. He said the group was created to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027 and was not intended to undermine the All Progressives Congress.

The minister’s comments come amid differing views among political actors over the coalition’s role ahead of the 2027 elections. While Wike described it as a platform involving APC members and other supporters of Tinubu, the APC Progressive Governors Forum has expressed concern about any arrangement it believes could affect the party’s structure or electoral interests.

Wike also dismissed suggestions that his current political activities were linked to plans for the 2031 presidency, saying future political decisions would depend on circumstances at the time. He maintained that his immediate focus remained supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid while continuing to monitor the delivery of infrastructure projects in Abuja.
