The governance and policy consequences of political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections came into sharper focus on Sunday as the national leadership of the Accord Party and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term. The decision followed a meeting in Osogbo, where party leaders also outlined priorities they believe should shape the country’s political direction.

According to a statement issued by Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for Adeleke’s re-election campaign, the meeting brought together the governor and senior officials of the Accord Party on Saturday night to deliberate on national political developments and preparations for the forthcoming Osun governorship election.

The party’s leadership said its endorsement of President Tinubu was influenced by the need to ensure continuity in key infrastructure programmes already underway across the country. It argued that ongoing projects should be allowed to reach completion rather than be interrupted by a change in leadership.

Among the projects highlighted were the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway. According to the statement, party leaders believe completing such large-scale infrastructure initiatives would serve the broader national interest and sustain the administration’s development agenda.

Beyond the presidential endorsement, discussions also centred on the conduct of the upcoming Osun State governorship election. The Accord Party appealed to political actors, electoral authorities and security agencies to ensure that the poll is conducted in a peaceful, transparent and credible manner.

The party cautioned against violence, voter intimidation, electoral manipulation and the use of security agencies to harass its members during the election. It urged all stakeholders to uphold democratic principles and create an atmosphere that would allow voters to exercise their rights freely.

The meeting was attended by the Accord Party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, Deputy National Chairman Maryam Sale, National Secretary Ajaja Abiola Adebukola, National Treasurer Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen, National Organising Secretary Ibe Thankgod, National Publicity Secretary Omorogbe Joseph, as well as state chairmen and other national and state officials, underscoring the party’s collective position on both its electoral strategy and national political priorities.
