Agboola Ajayi backs local govt autonomy, says Democracy has not faired better under APC.

Ondo State Gubernatorial candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party , PDP flagship , Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi has congratulated Nigerians on the uninterrupted flow of the Democratic experience in Nigeria spanning 25 years. He said it is necessary for Nigerians to assess Democracy in Nigeria in general and particularly for the people of Ondo state, the June 12 celebration offers another opportunity for the citizens and dwellers of the state to have a thought provoking rethink on the template of Democracy they desire.
Ajayi, who gave this indication in a chat with some select journalists bemoaned the anguish cutting across Nigeria over some of the policies of the APC led federal government, stressing that Nigerians deserve some relief from an acclaimed people’s oriented government, adding that with the way All progressives congress had ridden to government on mass support, more succor than the hardship been experienced by the masses is deserving.
Ajayi noted that if much is given to a party in power it is not out of place for the people who have given the party such support to enjoy the benefit of the social contract .
He said the complaints of hardship and economic inconvenience experienced by Nigerians is an indication of how terrible the All Progressives Congress, APC has failed Nigeria particularly in the past one year, reiterating the fact that what Nigerians had bargained for from the ruling party and what they got are miles apart.
Agboola Ajayi who beat several prominent PDP contenders to clinch the party’s ticket in April, 2024 said Local Government Autonomy is a non negotiable idea if the third tier of government is to independently survive in Nigeria, stating that it is condemnable for some APC Governors to be kicking against Local Government Autonomy. The Ese Odo born PDP strongman from Ondo South said when he was Council Chairman, he and his colleague Council Chair enjoyed some independence and this was why their era stood out in terms of the lofty achievement they were able to record in office.
Agboola Ajayi said the Governors who are fighting tooth and nail against Local Government Autonomy are anti progressive, backward and cannot think out of the box because growth will not get to the grassroots if the State Executives will not allow a full fledge booming governance template in the third tier of government administration.
Agboola Ajayi said he was taken aback realizing that his own State Governor has joined the wagon of those kicking against Local Government Autonomy , noting that such legal step must have been borne out of ill advice.
On the forthcoming November Guber poll in Ondo State, the PDP Governorship candidate said he has all the political credentials and experimental wherewithal to put up an outstanding performance on the field , adding that Ondo state needs a systemic leadership nuance that is devoid of already known stereotype of government as usual.
