The re-election of Isaacs Kekemeke as National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the South-West is being seen as part of a broader strategy by the party to maintain internal stability and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kekemeke emerged alongside other zonal executives during the APC South-West Zonal Congress held on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan, Lagos, where 3,188 delegates from across the six states in the region participated.
Party officials say the leadership selection was conducted through a consensus arrangement, a method they describe as consistent with provisions of the Electoral Act and aimed at reducing internal friction within the party structure.
Chairman of the Zonal Congress Committee, Jide Jimoh, explained that the adoption of consensus helped streamline the process, with the list of executives ratified by delegates through a voice vote at the congress.
Among those returned are Femi Aluko as Secretary, Lateef Ibirogba as Organising Secretary, Ayo Afolabi as Publicity Secretary, Adeduyi Daramola as Youth Leader, Ismail Majaro as Legal Adviser, and Dayo Ishola representing persons with disabilities.
Key political figures, including governors from Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo states, as well as other party leaders, were present at the congress, where they emphasised unity as a critical factor in strengthening the party’s position in the region.
Observers say the reliance on consensus reflects a deliberate effort by the party to avoid divisive contests and present a united front, with leaders expressing confidence that the approach will enhance coordination and improve electoral outcomes in the next political cycle.
