Fresh questions have emerged over the handling of an alleged assassination plot in Osun State, with the Imole Campaign Council calling for greater transparency in the police investigation. In a statement issued on Saturday, the campaign organisation urged the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to release additional details surrounding the confession of a suspect arrested over an alleged attempt to kill the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Wole Oke.

The council, through a statement signed by the Chairman of its Media Committee, Bamidele Salam, specifically requested the release of the complete and unedited video recording of the suspect’s parade before journalists. According to the group, making the footage public would help address what it described as inconsistencies in the account presented by the Osun State Police Command.

The campaign council argued that full disclosure would enable members of the public, the media and civil society organisations to independently assess the circumstances surrounding the case. It maintained that withholding portions of the briefing could fuel speculation and weaken public confidence in the investigation.

The group further stated that if the Osun State Police Command declined to release the recording, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, should constitute an independent investigative team to examine the matter. It said such a step would help reinforce public trust and ensure that all aspects of the case are subjected to impartial scrutiny.

The controversy follows the police parade on Thursday of disc jockey Olalekan Oriyomi and two other suspects, Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31, over an alleged plot to assassinate APC Campaign Council Director-General Oluwole Oke in Ipetu Ijesa. Police also said an English Beretta pistol loaded with four live rounds of ammunition was recovered from one of the suspects during the operation.

According to the Osun State Police Command, the suspects were arrested through an intelligence led operation before the alleged attack could be carried out. As of the time of filing this report, the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, had not responded to the latest demands by the Imole Campaign Council, despite efforts to obtain the police’s reaction.
