Faduyile announces Senator Meroyi’s death at the Senate

Ondo South Senator, Distinguished Senator Prof. Dayo Faduyile,OON has raised a motion seeking a minute silence in recognition of the contribution of former Ondo South Senator, Senator Samuel Omololu Meroyi on the floor of the Senate.

Senator Meroyi who represented Ondo South in the Senate from 1999 to 2003 died on Wednesday at the age of 76.

Senator Faduyile while presenting on the floor of the Senate the motion seeking a minute silence in honor of the pioneer Ondo South Senator of the Fourth Republic among other motions said Late Senator Omololu Meroyi was committed to democratic governance and public service. “Late Senator Samuel Omololu Meroyi was committed to democratic governance and public service long before the return to constitutional democracy in 1999.

“The Senate is to recognize that the pioneer Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the Fourth Republic played historic role in laying the democratic foundation for the representation of his district and contributed significantly to the consolidation of the Nigerian nascent democracy through principled leadership, constructive Legislative engagement and dedication to the Legislative welfare of his Constituency, constituents and the nation at large.

“Throughout his life time he remained an accomplished state man whose humility, wisdom and commitment to democratic ideals earned him respect and admiration of colleagues, political associates and Nigerians from all walks of life. His passing has denied Ondo South, Ondo State and Nigeria one of the pioneering architects of democracy whose exemplary leadership has continued to inspire present and future generations of public servants,” Senator Faduyile stated.

Four motions which pertained to acknowledging the input of Late Senator Meroyi as presented on the floor of the Senate by Senator Dayo Faduyile and seconded by Distinguished Senator Danladi Umar Alilu Envulu,Nasarawa North, got the gavel of the Senate President,Godswill Akpabio and a minute silence was observed in honor of Late Senator Omololu Meroyi.
