Concerns over the safety and protection of young people have come to the fore in Kano State following the arrest of 21 individuals during a late-night operation at a hotel in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Officials of the Kano State Hisbah Board carried out the raid at Stephrica Guest Palace in the Kureƙen Sani area, where authorities say a gathering involving mostly young people was underway in violation of state regulations on public morality.
Deputy Commander General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, confirmed that those arrested include 11 females and 10 males, with some of the females identified as minors between the ages of 17 and 25, raising questions about how underage persons gained access to the event.
Authorities say the operation was prompted by intelligence reports, and that Hisbah operatives moved in to halt what they described as activities inconsistent with the state’s moral code, particularly where vulnerable individuals may be exposed to risk.
The hotel manager was also taken into custody, according to officials, over allegations that the premises were used to host the gathering, a development that has drawn attention to the responsibilities of business owners in monitoring activities within their facilities.
The Hisbah Board says investigations are ongoing and that all those arrested will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of inquiries, as part of efforts to enforce compliance with existing laws.
Officials are also using the incident to call on residents to be more alert, especially regarding gatherings involving young people, stressing that early reporting of suspicious activity remains key to preventing situations that could endanger minors.
The development highlights broader concerns about youth exposure to unsafe environments and the role of enforcement agencies, families, and community leaders in ensuring that social spaces do not become avenues for exploitation or harm.
