The newly appointed Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has been decorated today. In a brief ceremony which was witnessed by Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, newly appointed National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu among high profile members of the Tinubu led Administration, the Vice President decorated the new IGP supported Mrs. Egbetokun.
Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of the President congratulated the newly decorated IGP.
Beaming with smiles, Egbetokun offered the VP a complimentary salute as the Former EFCC boss now National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu had handshake with him.
In a brief chat with newsmen, at the foyer of the VP’s conference center, IGP Kayode Egbetokun noted that he recognized the enormity of the responsibility that comes with his new office, promising not to disappoint Nigerians. He said he felt already like a tiger ready to devour all the criminals in Nigeria and made it clear that the nation will no longer tolerate the nuisance that criminals have caused in the time past. ” I must say I am aware of the responsibility of the new office as the Inspector General of Police and the enormity of this responsibility on my shoulder; right now , I feel like a tiger ready to devour all the criminals in Nigeria. I am battle ready to combat internal security challenges in Nigeria,” IGP Egbetokun noted, adding that by 11 am on Wednesday, having been decorated , he shall resume as the nation’s IGP at the Police headquarters.
Earlier the outgone IGP Alkali Baba, while commending the appointment of Egbetokun by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said the new IGP is a known and quite familiar officer to him, describing him as fit and proper Police personnel for the new top cop position. ” I have known Egbetokun for a very long time and we have worked together not only when I became the IGP but even long before now. The new IGP had worked closely under me in two different formations so I can vouch for his policing ability, ” ex IGP Alkali Baba noted.
It will be recalled that immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari retained former IGP Alkali Baba to prosecute the 2023 General elections, making him to stay in office obviously beyond his retirement schedule as the IGP.
On Monday evening, President Bola Tinubu announced the retirement of all the service Chiefs including the Inspector General of Police in one fell swoop and immediately announced their replacement across board.
