Kwara APC Pushes for Judicial Independence Amid Political Tensions.

Concerns over the integrity of judicial processes have come to the fore in Kwara State, as the All Progressives Congress calls for restraint in public commentary surrounding an ongoing legal matter. The party says recent political statements risk undermining confidence in the courts if not carefully managed.

In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olawale Babatunde, the APC urged key political figures, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party, to allow the judiciary to handle the case without external pressure. The party emphasised that the courts remain the appropriate forum for determining facts and resolving disputes.

The APC’s position follows public denials by Saraki regarding alleged links to individuals connected with a criminal case, claims the party insists should be tested through due legal process. According to the statement, evidence and testimonies gathered during investigations would be examined when proceedings resume, rather than debated in the media.

Party officials argue that heightened public exchanges around the matter reflect broader concerns about the politicisation of sensitive cases. They warn that sustained media battles could distract from due process and potentially influence public perception before the courts reach a verdict.

The ruling party also pointed to the role of the state government, commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for maintaining what it described as adherence to the rule of law. It stressed that ensuring accountability, regardless of political affiliation, is essential to strengthening institutions and public trust.

While reaffirming its focus on governance, the APC maintained that legal matters must be separated from political rivalry. Observers say the development highlights the delicate balance between political expression and judicial independence, particularly in high-profile cases with significant public interest.
