Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, revealed that over 300 distressed buildings were demolished in the last year.

The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde, disclosed this at the ongoing ministerial briefing to mark the first year of the second term of Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

According to Babatunde, 354 distressed buildings were identified with 85 percent of the structures removed. He said the task of removing the others would be completed in days ahead.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, disclosed that plans are already completed to relocate residents of Jakande Estate, Adeniji Adele to redevelop the estate.

He said the relocation and redevelopment of the estate would be done in batches, but about 900 buildings would be involved.

The commissioner also said that plans are on to relocate traders in Computer Village to Kotangwa Market and those at Okobaba to Agbowa.

However, he was not definite on the date for the relocation of the sawmillers to Agbowa despite the governor in August 2022 said that work was 95 per cent done at the relocation site and the relocation would be executed in December 2022.

Surprisingly, 21 months after, the commissioner said that the relocation will soon be executed.
