Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has taken another step towards preserving the state’s political history by naming newly completed government buildings after three former governors in recognition of their contributions to Ekiti’s development. The decision, announced on Tuesday, reflects an effort to acknowledge past leadership across different administrations.

According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the buildings have been dedicated to former governors Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi. The state government said the gesture is intended to honour their roles in the growth and development of Ekiti State.

The statement outlined the commissioning schedule for the projects, revealing that the building named after the immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, is expected to be inaugurated on Friday, July 31, 2026. Another facility named in honour of former governor Ayodele Fayose is scheduled for commissioning on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Government officials also disclosed that a third building bearing the name of former governor Segun Oni is nearing completion. According to the statement, work on the project is at an advanced stage, with its commissioning planned for October this year.

The latest recognition continues a pattern adopted by the Oyebanji administration in acknowledging the contributions of former leaders irrespective of political differences. In October 2024, the state government renamed the remodelled Presidential Lodge after Ekiti’s first civilian governor, Niyi Adebayo.

That facility was later inaugurated by Adebayo himself during activities marking the second anniversary of the Oyebanji administration. The event was presented by the government as part of efforts to celebrate the state’s democratic journey and recognise individuals who have shaped its development over the years.

By extending similar honours to other former governors, the Ekiti State Government says it is reinforcing a tradition of institutional recognition and continuity. Officials maintain that acknowledging the contributions of past administrations helps preserve the state’s political heritage while encouraging a culture of respect for public service and leadership.
