116 suspected cult members have been arrested in the Ifo area of Ogun State during an initiation and the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Neo-Black Movement, a.k.a Aye Confraternity, according to the State Police Command.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, said the suspects were arrested through useful information from members of the public.

Alamutu said the suspected cultists comprised 70 males and 46 females, and exhibits recovered from the scene during the operation included four axes, representing the symbol of their confraternity, and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, among others.

While one of the arrestees, a 33-year-old father of two, denied any involvement in a cult, a 22-year-old woman claimed she had been invited by a friend and had no knowledge that the gathering was a meeting of cult members.

Alamutu, however, noted that the Ogun State Police Command will not tolerate any form of criminal activity, whether from cultists or other offenders.

He added that all formations in the state have the mandate to comb all the dark spots to rid the state of criminals.

Meanwhile, the arrested suspects have been taken to the Eleweran Police Command Headquarters and are currently undergoing interrogation to determine their culpability.
