Wike promises to fix transportation in FCT with ₦2 billion allocation from FG

Tamarauemi Ebimini

President Bola Tinubu has given approval for a financial allocation of ₦2 billion to be allocated as relief funds for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the FCT.

Wike made this disclosure during a meeting held on Monday within his office, where he engaged with contractors.

The meeting took place after the inaugural session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) convened by the new administration.

The Federal Government had approved substantial sums of money for the 36 states across the federation, including the FCT, in order to mitigate the repercussions of discontinuing the fuel subsidy on the populace.

The minister pointed out that the allocated funds would primarily solve the transportation challenges faced by FCT residents.

He stated that while the Federal Government intends to augment funding for projects, the FCT Administration will also take into account its internally generated revenue.

The minister warned contractors that they must deliver without excuses.

Wike said on Monday that the ministry will deliver the Millennium Tower project in the next two years.

Wike stated this in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with contractors handling different projects in the FCT.

The Millennium Tower at Central Area, Abuja, is a multifunctional edifice with facilities for cultural exposition, tourism, socialisation, recreation, hospitality, and commercial activities.

The project is being handled by Salini Construction Nigeria Limited but was abandoned due to lack of funds.

He said that the tower was a very important project that would change the landscape of Abuja city.
