Ondo flooding: Olabode calls for govt help over challenge
The Igbotako born All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, Mr.Olabode Omoyele has bemoaned the difficulty faced by the people of Okitipupa and its environment as a result of the torrential rainfall in the past one week and the flooding that followed its heels.
The rain which had started on a moderate level had consistently drizzled with unrestrained downpour creating emergency waterways around State Specially Hospital/Yewa river, Estate/Ogungbo axis, Apata new site area while the residents of Omowa area off Okitipupa New Garage were worst hit.
In nearby communities of Igbodigo, Ayeka, Igodan among other areas, the excess flooding has also caused terrible damage to household property and plant crops, with farmers rueing the regrettable flood.
Mr.Olabode Omoyele noted in a statement that detailed his official reaction that the flood has affected livelihood of Ikale people, calling on Ondo State Government to kindly consider the plight of the flood victims.
He said relief materials are urgently required by flood victims whose houses were immersed in the waters that flooded their respective communities, stressing that a good number of residents of Ikale have been rendered homeless by the flood.
“Of a particularly sad concern is the case of mothers at the Omawa area who all came out half clothed and rolling on the floor in a visual that has gone viral now, pleading with the state government to come to their aid. While we understand that the flood wasn’t caused by the state government so that we are clear that it’s a natural disaster,we can only appeal to the good conscience and the caring heart sentiment of Gov.Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to kindly come to our aid in Okitipupa, which by historical record is one of the major flagship community in Ondo South.
” Our appeal is borne out of the fact that providing succor for people in dire situations as the Okitipupa flood victims stands very firm as one of the legs on which the ideal of the social contract stands on,” Olabode emphasized.
He reiterated that at this material time, the only assistance for those whose houses have been taken over by flood and who are suffering further fear of unrestrained flood as the rains still drizzle everyday is the provision of considerable palliatives by the state government, while maintaining that Gov.Aiyedatiwa is no doubt a father who understands and who will come to the rescue of the victims.
