School attacks: Amotekun heightens security in Osun boundary communities

The Commandant of Osun State Amotekun Corp, Brig Gen. Bashir Adewinbi (retd.), on Thursday, said the security outfit had intensified surveillance on border communities in the state.

The move, he said, was in response to the alarm raised on Tuesday by Governor Ademola Adeleke that there were plans by criminals to attack schools and farm settlements in the state.

The governor, who raised the alarm in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said those behind the plot aimed to disrupt the implementation of his  administration’s developmental drive by causing apprehension in the state.

Adeleke said he had put the security forces on the alert and would embark on major reforms of the Amotekun.

Asked what Osun Amotekun was doing to forestall the alleged plot, the commandant said the state-owned security outfit had intensified the patrol of border communities.

Adewinbi said many measures were being adopted to prevent a breakdown of law and order in Osun State.

He said, “Amotekun is collaborating with the other security agencies. I have been having meeting with the security agencies in the state. We are doing everything possible to make sure it doesn’t happen.

“We are thinking of how to secure our borders, we are thinking of how to intensify intelligence gathering within the state and so many other things. The security agency is on top of everything.”
