A major conflict has erupted between the Osun State government and the Nigeria Police. The dispute began after police officers closed and locked the offices of the state’s local security force, known as Amotekun.

The Amotekun Corps was created by states in southwestern Nigeria to help fight rising crime. Many residents see it as a vital layer of security in their communities.

On Friday, the Osun State House of Assembly broke its silence on the police action. The lawmakers did not hide their anger, calling the sealing of the offices a direct attack on the people’s safety.

The Speaker of the Assembly,Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, addressed the press. He stated firmly that the police’s action was against the law and had no legal basis. He suggested the move was not about security, but was driven by hidden political motives.

“The people of Osun State deserve to feel safe,”the Speaker declared. He said the state parliament strongly condemns the police operation and stands fully with the Amotekun security network.

This forceful rejection by the state’s lawmakers sets the stage for a serious standoff. It raises questions about who controls security in the region and leaves residents caught in the middle of the power struggle.
