The Oyo State government has officially denied rumors about a new tax targeting burials, weddings, and other social events. In a clear statement, the government labeled the widespread reports as completely false and inaccurate.

This denial comes after a wave of concern spread among residents. Many were worried about the potential financial burden of having to pay the state for holding personal ceremonies like funerals and marriage celebrations.

Officials clarified that there is no new policy or law that introduces such levies. They urged the public to disregard the alarming stories circulating online and in informal discussions.

The government acknowledged that it is focused on improving its existing tax collection system to fund public services. However, it stressed that this effort does not include taxing the personal events of its citizens.

This swift clarification aims to calm public fears and correct the misinformation. The state government has effectively drawn a line, confirming that life’s important moments will not be subject to these alleged new charges.
