Traveling out of Nigeria is set to become more costly. Starting December 1, 2025, all international air travelers will see an extra $11.50 charge added to their ticket price. This new fee was announced by the country’s aviation authority on Tuesday.
The additional cost is a security levy, officially called the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) charge. Its purpose is to fund systems that collect passenger data before flight departures. With this increase, the total security fee paid by each passenger will rise to $31.50.
For the average traveler, this means the overall cost of a trip will go up. The new charge is mandatory and will be applied automatically to every ticket for a flight leaving Nigeria. This adds to the existing taxes and fees already included in airfare.
The government expects this new fee to generate significant income, estimating an annual revenue of about $46 million. This money is intended to support and modernize the country’s aviation security infrastructure.
The announcement solidifies the financial planning for the nation’s air travel system for the coming year. For passengers, however, it simply means budgeting for a higher price tag on every international journey from next December.
