A key political support group has expelled Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. This drastic action followed his recent move to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The organisation, called Atiku Haske, completely disowned Abba Atiku on Monday. It also rejected his public directive for its members to follow him into the APC. The group stated he acted alone without any consultation.
In a strong statement, the organisation’s leadership declared that Abba Atiku has no authority to decide its political direction. They said the group remains loyal to its own principles and is not a personal asset.
Abba Atiku Abubakar, a businessman, had publicly defected to the APC last week. At the time, he urged his supporters within the Atiku Haske group to join him in switching parties.
The Atiku Haske group is known as a grassroots political structure in northern Nigeria. It was originally formed to support the presidential ambitions of his father, Atiku Abubakar, who is a major opposition figure.
This expulsion highlights deep fractures within political families and their support bases ahead of future elections. It signals that the son’s move to the ruling party is not supported by this part of his father’s political network.
