PDP Urges Calm as Leadership Dispute Sparks Wider Party Anxiety.

The Peoples Democratic Party is calling for restraint among its members nationwide following concerns triggered by a recent meeting convened by the Independent National Electoral Commission with leaders of political parties.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the development had unsettled party supporters but should not be allowed to escalate into tension or unrest.

According to the party, INEC extended invitations to individuals it described as former PDP members who are claiming to represent a so-called National Caretaker Committee, a body the party insists is not recognised by its constitution.

The PDP warned that such engagements, if not carefully handled, could inflame passions among members and supporters across the country, stressing that political disagreements must be managed through lawful and peaceful channels.

Party officials expressed disappointment that the electoral commission proceeded with the meeting despite pending cases before the Court of Appeal, noting that some of the judgments cited by INEC are still subjects of legal contest.

The PDP maintained that the resolution of its leadership questions rests with the courts and internal party mechanisms, urging supporters to remain calm and avoid actions that could undermine public peace.

Reassuring its base, the party said its internal reform agenda, known as the Rebirth Movement, remains intact and is being driven under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The party added that it expects judicial clarity in the coming weeks and appealed to its members to stay united, insisting that patience and adherence to due process are essential to preserving stability within the party and the wider political space.
