Bode George Urges PDP Leaders to Put Party Before Personal Power.

As the Peoples Democratic Party intensifies efforts to resolve internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections, party elder Bode George is calling on key actors to set aside personal ambitions and focus on rebuilding unity.

Speaking amid ongoing reconciliation moves within the party, George reminded political leaders that positions of authority are temporary, urging them to remember that leadership ultimately serves the public rather than individual interests.

The comments come at a time when the PDP is working to mend rifts between rival blocs within its ranks, as party officials push for a settlement that would allow aspirants to contest under the platform without the threat of prolonged court battles.

At the centre of the disagreement are factions aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and another group led by Kabiru Turaki, which have taken different positions on the party’s strategy for the next presidential election.

According to party insiders, the Wike-aligned bloc has suggested the PDP should support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu, while the Turaki camp insists the party must present its own presidential candidate in the 2027 race.

George, during a television interview, appealed to all sides to approach the reconciliation process with humility, warning that political offices should not be treated as permanent platforms of power.

The PDP stalwart also stressed that the party’s founding vision must guide its leaders as negotiations continue, noting that restoring cohesion now could determine whether the opposition party remains competitive in the next national election cycle.
