EKOPATH 2026: WADIAP honors Senator Faduyile as Pathologists call for future-proofing profession

Ondo South Senator, Distinguished Senator Prof.Dayo Faduyile, OON has been honored by West African Division of The International Academy of Pathology ( WADIAP).
Senator Faduyile’s recognition by his colleagues in the West African Division of the International Academy of Pathology was a major highlight of the opening ceremony of the 16th Annual General And Scientific Meeting of the Academy, which held at Orchid Hotel, Lekki, Lagos State on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026.
Faduyile, a Medical Administrator and President Emeritus, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), was more like a Priest who has honor in his own professional constituency: he was presented the Distinguished Leadership Award in recognition of his Exemplary Leadership, Visionary Guidance and Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of Medicine, Pathology and Human Development.
In his goodwill address, the Distinguished Senator and Professor of Pathology and Forensic Medicine noted that Pathology is the major bedrock of Medicine hence the need for future -proofing the discipline, saluting the stakeholders for thinking out of the box on the need for quality innovation as West African Pathologists chart the course of advancing the boundary of Pathology.
He said there is need for Government and the public to have clearer knowledge of the relevance of Pathology, stressing that a whole lot of Medical Professionals still have not come to terms with the quality input of Pathologists to the day to day case management and treatment of diseases.
On the fringe of the Eko Path Sessions, Prof.Faduyile in an exclude chat with newsmen charged WADIAP to engage both government and the media on pushing awareness on the things that Pathologists do. “we need to set up group that will go out and start talking about us. There is need for awareness on the airwave over what Pathologists do, what they are and their relevance to the field of Medicine.
” As Pathologists whose diagnoses are key to the field of Medical Science, we need to let the general public have a clearer understanding of what we do and by so doing people will know what we do and our professional relevance doesn’t go into extinction, ” Faduyile said.
He added, “If we must be successful as Pathologists, we must go out and indulge in private practice that is business inclined that can project the relevance of Pathology as a discipline in Medicine.”
The theme of the 16th Annual General And Scientific Meeting of WADIAP is ‘Future-Proofing Pathology in West Africa: Integrating Quality Innovation and Regional Synergy.’
Reacting to the basic concern that informed the theme of EkoPath 2026, President, West African Division of The International Academy of Pathology (WADIAP), Prof.Fatimah Abdul Kareem said, ” this theme is timely as Pathology undergoes rapid transformation through Molecular diagnostics, digital Pathology, artificial intelligence (ai) and precision Medicine.Our challenge is to ensure that West Africa is not merely a recipient of these advances, but an active contributor to innovation and scientific excellence.”
Among the Special guests were DG, Nigeria Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment ( NICRAT), Prof.Usman Malami Aliyu, Director-General/ CEO, Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, Prof.John Oladapo Obafunwa, Consultant Pathologist of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology, LUTH, Prof.Banjo ; while key note lectures were delivered by Prof.Babatunde Olasode, Histopathologist and Consultant Neuropathologist, OAUTH; Prof.Oluyemi Ogunbiyi and others.
