Poroye Inspects Aboto–Atijere Road, Water Treatment Plant as OSOPADEC Intensifies Infrastructure Drive

The Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Biyi Poroye, has inspected the ongoing construction of the 28.5-kilometre Aboto–Atijere Road and rehabilitation works at the Aboto Water Treatment Plant, as the commission steps up efforts to improve infrastructure and access to potable water in its mandate areas.

The inspection focused on progress on the road project and the construction of key treatment facilities at the water plant, which has a capacity of two million gallons per day (MGD).

At the Aboto–Atijere Road construction site, Poroye observed that earthworks, including sand filling, had extended to Atijere community, making sections of the route passable to utility vehicles.

He said the contractor had also accelerated work on culverts to improve drainage, strengthen the road structure and enhance its durability.

Poroye disclosed that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa had directed that the road be constructed with adequate thickness and appropriate surfacing to withstand anticipated traffic.

According to him, the directive is intended to ensure that the road meets the transportation needs of beneficiary communities and provides lasting value.

The road project is expected to improve connectivity between Aboto and Atijere, ease the movement of people and goods, and support economic activities in the coastal communities.

At the Aboto Water Treatment Plant, the OSOPADEC chairman inspected ongoing works involving the construction of a concrete sedimentation tank, clarifier and aeration tank.

The facilities are expected to strengthen the plant’s treatment processes and improve its capacity to provide safe, treated water to beneficiary communities.

The sedimentation tank is designed to facilitate the removal of suspended particles from raw water, while the clarifier supports the separation of settled impurities. The aeration tank helps improve water quality through the introduction of air into the treatment process.

When completed and operational, the facilities are expected to improve treatment efficiency and strengthen the delivery of potable water across communities within OSOPADEC’s mandate areas.

The projects form part of the commission’s broader infrastructure drive aimed at addressing critical development needs in oil-producing communities in Ondo State.
