Fall out of APC Nec meeting, NWC dissolved
– Steve Ovirih.
Amidst speculations as to whether the faction of All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Chief Victor Giadom will be able to sustain the tempo of his claim to the Chairmanship of the party, his faction has successfully convened the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the party at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock.
The President, Muhammadu Buhari led other chieftains of the ruling party at the NEC meeting which also had in attendance the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan; Speaker House of Representatives, Rt.Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo Agege.
Governors in attendance were those of Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Kwara and Lagos.
The rest are Governors of Nasarawa, Niger, Gombe, Yobe, Plateau, Kano, Kebbi and Imo State.
Principal officers of both chambers of the National Assembly who belong to APC were also in attendance.
Acting National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Gaidom was also in attendance.
To stabilize the party that was already cracking under factional leadership, President Buhari gave approval for the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, which is held in proxy for Chief Abiola Ajimobi by Chief Hilliard Eta.
It will be recalled that Chief Giadom, relying on an ex parte order obtained in March had laid claim to the Chairmanship of the party, a decision that had factionalized the party, questioning the leadership of the party and quality of decisions taken since the crisis had started.
The NEC dissolved the party’s NWC and appointed the Governor of Gombe state , Mai Mala Buni to hold forte in acting capacity and oversee the affairs of the party until the next convention of the national party.
