Imo teachers demand 12 months unpaid salaries.

– Steve Ovirih.

Serious labour unrest is brewing in Imo state as the Imo state government maybe crossing the war path with the state civil servants over backlog of unpaid salaries.

Governor Uzodinma had in a statement announced that his government is not owing the state workers, adding that any worker claiming to be owed by Imo state government should come to the State House with their appointment letter.

Governor Uzodinma maintained that those who are making a noise are ghost workers who are in cahoots with fifth columnists in the state, stressing that to the best of his knowledge , he is not aware the state is owing workers.

In a swift reaction to the information which emanated from Governor Uzodinma, no fewer than three hundred teachers in the employ of Imo state protested to the State House at Owerri branding their appointment letters. The workers expressed their disappointment over the fact that Imo state Government can feign ignorance over the arrears of 12 months unpaid salaries of the teachers.

They demanded immediate payment of the backlog of salaries failure upon which there will be labour unrest in the state, particularly in the education sector.
