In what looked more or less like a consensus election, the delegates re-elected with a sound victory, Engr. Adetimehin for another term of four years to man the affairs of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State.
From neighboring Osun State, it was a related development with a slight difference.
Amidst heavy presence of security men, the Osun State APC Congress held with the emergence of Chief Famodun as the state APC Chairman. Earlier , Chairman of the Osun State APC Congress Committee, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye had announced that the exercise will be a consensus election.
However, a group withing the Osun State APC, Osun Progressives said it elected, Alhaji Rasak Salinshile as its Chairman.
In Oyo state, the Congress was shifted by a week all of a sudden after delegates and newsmen had gathered at the venue of the state Congress.
While confirming the postponement of the Oyo state Congress, the publicity Secretary of APC in Oyo State, Dr. Abdulaziz Olatunde said the exercise was postponed to allow the party organize a befiting and hitch free process.
In Ogun State, heavy gunshots rented the air at the Ake palace ground venue of the state APC Congress as armed political thugs caused a stampede shooting sporadically into the air to scare away party members loyal to former Gov. Ibikunle Amosun.
The sporadic gunshots greeted the arrival of Senator Tolu Odebiyi and Hon. Kunle Akinlade; both APC stalwarts are not in the same camp with Senator Ibikunle Amosun (SIA).
It was observed that the Ake palace ground venue of the event was later locked up to prevent the loyalists of Senator Amosun from using the venue for the state Congress.
The APC state congresses which expectedly held across the states of the federation yesterday will throw up new leadership that will shape the party’s narrative ahead of the 2023 General election in Nigeria.
