Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Government,  and former President,  Nigeria Medical Association,  NMA, Prof Dayo Faduyile,  OON, has advised that all pre adolescent girls from age 9 to 11 years should receive anti HPV vaccine in their bid to prevent cervical cancer.

Prof. Faduyile gave this charge as the world marks year 2023 Cancer Day.

In a statement from the office of The Special Adviser on Health,  which was obtained by thepolity.net, the   Professor of Medicine noted that cervical cancer is preventable in young girls based on early awareness and enlightenment,  noting that awareness is a key to its prevention. He said females must be aware of the need to avoid early coitus, while stressing that all sexually active ladies should endeavor to undergo pap smear test at least once in a year.

Prof Faduyile maintained that positive pap test will engender colposcopy ( the examination of the tissue of the  female genital with the aid of colposcope).

He also stressed that both male and female should guide against multiple sexual partners,  while noting also that those who are hooked on smoking should quit the habit.

” Let me state here that it is advisable to  consult doctors early in case of any abnorma bleeding.  We all must be aware that as people who should be particular about  individual health status, it’s important we all work together to kick cervical cancer out of Ondo state,” Prof Faduyile noted.
