AAUA lecturers strike: Olabode hails Aiyedatiwa’s release of intervention fund

By Steve Ovirih.

Public Affairs analyst,Mr.Olabode Omoyele has described as commendable the active steps being taken by Ondo State Governor,Lucky Aiyedatiwa in resolving the industrial action embarked on by the lecturers of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA.

The Academic staff of the state owned university, according to report had been on job boycott since July 10, 2026 over two months unpaid salaries and according to the union Chairman, Dr.Bolaji Oshodi, the unpaid salaries have had untold negative impact on the welfare of ASUU members in the university.

In the reaction of Ondo State Government to the strike action, Gov.Aiyedatiwa endorsed the release of 1.1 billion Naira intervention fund for the university for onward payment of the backlog of salaries and sundry matters of funding of the ivory tower.

Olabode in his take on this development in an exclusive chat with newsmen saluted Gov.Aiyedatiwa’s prompt response to the challenge, stressing that there is need for quick negotiation between Govt/Management of the university and the striking lecturers particularly that the second semester examination becomes the victim of the action which definitely affects the university calendar and the welfare of the final year students of the institution.

Olabode noted that with the fund the Government of Gov.Aiyedatiwa just released, active negotiation to end the strike should be promptly activated to enhance a smooth running of the academic calendar of the university, maintaining that the strike action hardly bodes well for the academic growth of the students.

He said it is on record that the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Prof.Ajibefun has been reaching out to ASUU Akungba Akoko, pleading with the lecturers too to embrace negotiation particularly as their strike was about welfare and the fund release expectedly will take care of their unpaid salaries demand.

Olabode called on cooperation with Gov.Aiyedatiwa while pleading that the lecturers’strike should be suspended for further negotiations to be activated between ASUU and state government.
