Anthrax: Faduyile calls on Nigerians to guide against contact with infected animals.

– Steve Ovirih.

Professor Adedayo Faduyile ,OON, Special Adviser on Health , Ondo State has drummed up awareness on the now raging Anthrax which he described as a sickness caused by a spore forming bacteria. ” It is an acute infectious disease of herbivores especially sheep and cattle caused by Bacillus anthraxis,” Prof. Faduyile added.

The former National President, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, in an exclusive chat with thepolity.net noted that Anthrax can be used as a tool for bioterrorism .

Faduyile maintained that Anthrax can cause inhalation sickness and it is tramsmittable through exposure to pores, exposure to infected animals , skin hides and their products.

The Professor of Pathology and Forensic Medicine however clarified that Anthrax is not transmissible from man to man, stressing that it is presented in fever, chills, shortness of breath , skin sores , stomach pain , body aches and cough.

The Health expert said Anthrax is prevented by a conscious guide against contact with infected animals.

” I implore Nigerians to be conscious of the presence of Anthrax in the country and to note that prevention is far better than cure. For those who have contracted Anthrax or who are in the throes of any of the symptoms earlier listed, they should see doctor to ensure proper medical attention with necessary antibiotics, ‘ Prof. Dayo Faduyile advised.
