APC National Chairman, Secretary, resign.

– Steve Ovirih.

The speculation over the crack within the National Working Committee ( NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC was on Monday confirmed as the news from the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja indicated that the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu , has resigned his reverred position. It will be recalled that Senator Adamu, who was the anointed choice of former President Muhammadu Buhari, left the Senate to oversee the affairs of the party as he eventually midwifed the party’s historical primary and the General elections onbehalf of APC.

The APC tsunami also swept from his exalted seat the National Secretary of the party, Senator Christopher Iyiola Omisore, the one time Deputy Governor to Chief Bisi Akande of Osun State.

Ironically , Chief Omisore not quite few days back led the party’s National Leadership to Ondo State to douse the tension caused by the now immediate past APC National Chairman, Senator Adamu in a statement credited to him by newsmen to the effect that ” Ondo State Governor was extremely incapacitated. ” Senator Omisore had dissociated the party from the tension soaked report, while debunking the fact that the National Chairman made such unconfirmed statement.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu was in office as APC National Chairman for a year and four months.

Confirming the gale of resignations which had hit the party was the National Vice Chairman of the party Alhaji Abubakar Kyari , who noted that he has assumed the Chairmanship of the party in Acting Capacity. Kyari equally confirmed that The Deputy National Secretary of the party, Festus Fuanter takes over as the party’s National Secretary.

The National Caucus session of the party billed for 18th July and the National Executive Committee ( NEC) meeting meant to hold on the 19th July have both been rescheduled to hold at a time to be conveyed to all concerned members.

While the reason for the resignation of Senator Adamu was not announced, a drama played out at the party’s headquarters as Senator Omisore was not allowed in when he arrived .

However , the new party Chairman confirmed both Adamu and Omisore’s exit from the National offices they held in the party.

Sources within the party hinted that trouble started for Senator Adamu as the party’s Chairman after the APC Presidential primary as his preference for the party’s Presidential candidate was Senator Ahmad Lawan, former Senate President, whom he had publicly announced as the choice of the Presidency, a pronouncement kicked against by the Progressives Governors Forum. Adamu afterwards worked for the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but their relationship had remained frosty eversince.

For Adamu, the last straw that broke the camel’s back was his disconsonance with the choice of both the House of Representatives and Senate’s leadership officers as he widely claimed both the Speaker and Senate President didn’t carry the party structure along in their respective choices. This opinion was also disagreed with by other members of the National Working Committee, NWC of the party.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu will go down in the history of the ruling APC as the first National Chairman of the party to have resigned from office.
