Not fewer than six persons had died in an accident which occured around 6 pm on Friday at the Lafe area of Aye/ Ore express way.

According to eyewitness account, six persons were burnt to death in the mishap along Ode Aye / Ore highway in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo state on Friday, 12th November, 2021.

The accident involved a coaster bus and a J5 bus laden with Ethanol .
The unfortunate incident occurred after one of the vehicles which was trying to overtake another one collided with an incoming vehicle and instantly caught fire.

The passengers in the coastal bus belonging to Akure North Local Government Area were on their way to Okitipupa to attend a social function of one of the Directors of Odigbo Local government .

According to an eye witness who doesn’t want his name in print, the two vehicles collided after one them wrongly veered off his lane in the driver’s bid to overtake another car at a dangerous corner, close to Oluwa river and the two vehicles caught fire instantly.

The source said
six people were burnt beyond recognition in the bus while some other victims were rushed to Pima hospital at Ore in Odigbo local government where they have been receiving treatment.

He said the residents of the community tried to put off the fire but the ethanol loaded in the J5 vehicle were inflammable, burning the two vehicles and six people in the bus beyond recognition.
He further added that all attempts to call the operatives of the state road safety corps were not successful . The remains of those who lost their lives in the road mishap had been deposited in a morgue at Ore.

It will be recalled that the Federal Road safety corp (FRSC) had raised the alarm that driving on a high speed and dangerous overtaking in sharp bends should be discouraged by drivers particularly as the Ember months begin.
