Boss Mustapha to Nigerians: don’t handle coronavirus with kid gloves

– Steve Ovirih.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Coronavirus, Mr. Boss Mustapha has called on Nigerians not to see the coronavirus pandemic as a phenomenon that could be toyed with, warning that it is real and it kills. Mr. Mustapha rang out this timely warning at the COVID 19 media briefing in Abuja.

He noted that it’s un ecouraging how Nigerians have handled with levity the safety protocols, stressing that our collective failure to respect the social distancing counsel is what has led to the spike in the rate of the community contagion of the virus.

Boss Mustapha carpeted state governments that have shown impatience concerning reopening of schools , adding that the most vulnerable group are the school children , thus the hurried attempt to reopen school is not in the best interest of the children of schooling age at this period when there has not been any known cure for the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.

He noted that the committee has observed that people have been goin on with their normal businesses across the country without a care for social distancing or not even in the least the use of the recommended face masks. He condemned the movement of people across inter state borders even when the inter state lockdown protocol is still in effect. The PTF Chairman on Covid 19 charged Nigerians to be more circumspect in their opinion about the existence of the virus, noting that the global mortality caused by the virus in the last six months is alarming and calls for caution and sober reflection.
