Change of leadership at NMA as Dr. Faduyile sets for Ondo Guber race
– Steve Ovirih.
There has been change of guard at the national body of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) as the President of the Medical Association who had held sway for two years, Dr. Francis Adedayo Faduyile has handed over the leadership of the association to a new President, Prof. Innocent Ichua.
The immediate past President of the association, Dr. Faduyile employed more of advocacy and diplomacy in drawing government attention to the need to ensure basic primary health challenges of masses of Nigeria are catered to. While his tenure enjoyed less of industrial action among the medical corp of the labour force, he and his executive members at the national level traversed the country engaging in national and statewide negotiations between Nigerian Doctors and their federal and state employers.
Towards the tail end of Dr Faduyile’s tenure as NMA President, it became his lot to interface between the Doctors’guild and the Federal Government on the challenge of Coronavirus pandemic , particularly as he felt at a time that the Covid 19 Presidential Task Force did not carry the NMA along on deliberations as regards curbing and controlling the community spread of the contagion.
The former President of NMA, Dr. Faduyile, a brilliant scholar and expert forensic medical practitioner is leaving the NMA to contest for the Governorship of Ondo state under the All Progressives Congress, APC platform. He is an APC stalwart from Okitipupa Local Government Area, with his ward at Ikoya.
Dr. Dayo Faduyile, who is no stranger to the politics of Ondo state had in the time past contested for the State House of Assembly and the Federal House of Representatives position.
In a media chat with thepolity.net, Dr. Faduyile thanked all the executive members of the national NMA who had worked with him, stressing that the success of his tenure as NMA President is dedicated to all the national exco members for their cooperation. He noted that Nigeria will overcome the coronavirus pandemic but there is the need to flatten the curve very well before government lifts the lockdown permanently, noting that we all should collectively ensure that we observe all the safety protocols so that there is no spike in the curve of the pandemic across Nigeria.
The former NMA President expressed confidence in his ability to govern Ondo state and bring all the required indexes needed for a greater and more economically robust Ondo state.
He said he is in support of the Direct Primary template to pick the APC candidate in the October poll , adding that his campaign organization, Prince Dayo Faduyile campaign team (PDF) is fully on ground in the state and the campaign organization has reached out to both the rank and file of APC in Ondo state ahead of the July primary.
Dr. Faduyile said Ondo state needs forthright leadership by someone of the younger generation and on the strength of this conviction he is offering himself for service in the sunshine state.
