Covid 19: NCDC says no new case in Nigeria; Nigerian infected with Coronavirus in U.

No new confirmed index case of coronavirus (Covid 19) has been recorded in Nigeria, says The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC). The Director-General of the center, Dr. Ihekweazu Chike gave this reassuring information in a media chat. However , there have been suspected cases of the virus in at least five states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Talking about contact tracing of the people who met with the Italian carrier of the virus, Ihekweazu noted that a total of 219 contacts had been identified , which include those he met in hotel , health care workers and workplace.

Stressing the fact, he said, ” no new contacts have been identified in either Lagos or Ogun state.”

He emphasised that the center is involved in a sectoral National emergency operation that is activated at level three and the center for Disease Control will continue to coordinate national response activities .

He noted that Index patient is being maintained at IDH, Lagos , stressing that the screening of passengers has started at all International airports in Nigeria.

In a related development, a Nigeria in District Washington, United States has reportedly tested positive to the Coronavirus decease. Report quoting the Mayor of The District of Columbia, Muriel Bowser has it that the Nigerian tested affirmative to the virus on Sunday.

It will be recalled that out of about 450 reported cases of the virus in The US, almost 19 had died, boosting the record of global mortality arising from the incidence of Coronavirus.

Also , more than half of the fifty US states have reported incidence of the coronavirus cases. The Mayor observed that the outbreak of the virus has terribly disrupted the daily life of average Americans with major public events cancelled.
