A Medical expert, Prof .Dayo Faduyile, OON, Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Health Matters, has described peptic ulcer as a health challenge to the body that is caused by ‘ helictobacter pylori infection, noting that it can also be caused by the indiscriminate pain reliever drugs such as Ibruprofen , Diclofenac and failure to take good food diet regularly.
Prof Faduyile made this known through a weekly Health Evaluation Notice ( HEN) from the office of the Special Adviser on Health, a copy of which was made available to thepolity.net
The former National President, Nigeria Medical Association said among the Complications that can emanate from peptic ulcer are obstruction of the stomach outlet,unexpected weight loss, chronic bleeding/anemia, and vomiting of blood. Other more challenging complications could be perforation of stomach of the sufferer, chemical peritonitis and or cancer of the stomach.
While raising concern about peptic ulcer, Prof Faduyile said it can be prevented, stressing that people should stop the indiscriminate use of pain relief drugs, people should not encourage the habit of jumping diets as it is advisable that people should eat regularly.
Prof Faduyile also warned that people should guide against spicy foods as such increase the chances of peptic ulcer. He added that peptic ulcer is treatable, advising people to always reach out to their doctor to avoid complications.
