The driver involved in a deadly crash that killed two friends of boxer Anthony Joshua has been formally charged in court. Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, faces multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing death.
The accident happened earlier this week on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Kayode’s Lexus SUV hit a parked truck. Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, died at the scene. Joshua and the driver suffered minor injuries.
The case drew major public attention after false rumors spread online claiming Joshua was the driver. Police have clearly stated the boxing champion is not a suspect and was a passenger in the vehicle.
Kayode was arraigned in a Sagamu court on Friday. The charges against him include reckless driving and driving without a valid license. The court set his bail at 5 million Naira, but he remains in custody until the bail conditions are met.
Anthony Joshua was released from the hospital on Wednesday. He and his mother later visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay respects to his late friends before their bodies are sent home.
Police say their investigation is complete. The case has been adjourned until January 20, 2026, and officials promise a diligent prosecution.
