Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced what he described as the end of the prolonged political crisis in the state, urging his supporters to embrace reconciliation and unite behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Riven Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt.
Presenting his remarks as a call for political stability, Fubara said he now supports President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term and the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda. He also disclosed that he had joined the Rainbow Coalition, a political platform initiated by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying the alliance reflects a shared commitment to peace and development.
The governor told supporters that the period of political confrontation in the state had come to an end and appealed to them to put past disagreements aside. According to him, anyone aligned with his political direction should support the Rainbow Coalition and its candidates, stressing that he would not be associated with actions capable of creating fresh divisions in Rivers State.
Fubara’s comments come after years of political tension between him and Wike, a dispute that began in late 2023 and led to divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly, impeachment threats and a prolonged struggle for political control. In 2025, the crisis escalated when a state of emergency was declared in Rivers, resulting in the temporary suspension of the governor, his deputy and the state legislature before the suspension was later lifted.
Beyond politics, the governor used the occasion to highlight the economic significance of the Riven Medical Industries Project, a public-private partnership between the Rivers State Government and Enbay Pharmaceutical Industries Limited. He said the investment is expected to generate jobs, strengthen local pharmaceutical production and contribute to improved healthcare services, while urging the investors to complete the first phase of the project within three months.
Fubara also appealed to host communities and local authorities to support the project and avoid actions that could hinder its implementation. According to the state government, the pharmaceutical facility is expected to reduce dependence on imported medicines, encourage technology transfer and attract further investment, with the governor pledging continued government support to ensure the project’s success.
