Fuel hike: FG considers electric vehicles as solution, woos investors

Amid the rise in fuel pump price to N617 per litre, the federal government has indicated a strong commitment to partnerships with the private sector to make electric vehicles available for Nigerians.

According to NAN, Jelani Aliyu, the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu disclosed this on Tuesday at a Validation Workshop of the Draft National Action Plan for the Development of EVs in Nigeria.

According to him, EVs will end the challenges associated with petrol-engined vehicles.

He stressed that EVs are more affordable when compared with petrol-engined vehicles.

“It is because one is dealing with a machine that does not need those things that could typically go wrong in a traditional petrol or diesel engine.

“No engine oil change, piston, plugs, crankshaft and all those things that can typically go wrong in a traditional petrol or diesel engine are absent in an EV.

“So, the total cost of ownership, the total amount of money that you spend over a lifetime of the vehicle, is much less,” he stated.
